I have been seeing a lot of media lately that looks at mental illness and the opioid epidemic. below is a list of some things I have been reading, watching, and listening to:
This podcast takes a look at how the opioid crisis came about in “Opioids: How America Got Hooked”, the next episode focuses on treatment availability in “Opioids: Kicking America’s Addiction”
On Netflix.
I’ll admit it, I haven’t watched this one yet. It’s coming up on my list though. I heard a podcast about this documentary and it sounds really good…and really sad.
The Lonely American Man looks at how the societal pressures of masculinity often causes a lack of real friendships in American men; and how that affects their physical and mental health.
The Man Who Couldn’t Stop: OCD and the True Story of a Life in Thought
This book isn’t newly published, it was written in January 2015, but it is a new read for me. This book is a great introduction to what it is truly like to have OCD and provides both personal stories, and data from scientific studies.
People Magazine: Star Who Have Mental Illness
I wrote a list of celebrities with mental illness a while ago, you can read that here. People magazine recently put out their own list.
